关于利兹communication studies的课程设置
The MA Communications Studies is a generalist MA addressing the pressing cultural, social, political and economic questions in the field of media and communications today.
The programme offers a multidisciplinary understanding of contemporary communications. It provides students with an opportunity to explore critically the ways in which selected areas of ‘real world’ communications operate in global, national and local contexts. The MA Communications Studies is open to students regardless of their first degree background. It will particularly appeal to those working in the communications and media industries as well as to people who plan to enter a wide range of professional careers yet wish to develop a deeper and theoretically informed understanding of communications, their role in contemporary society, current and likely future developments, and their impact for citizens, governments and culture.
How will I be taught?
Students are taught in a mixture of lectures, small group seminars and student-led discussions and presentations. The emphasis is on independent learning; we allow time each week for students to independently pursue and develop their own ideas, analyses and critiques of the issues discussed in the classes and in the literature.Module-related work involves preparation for classes, giving oral presentations, producing essays, and conducting independent research.
Students also regularly see their supervisors in personal tutorials to discuss their work.In addition, students meet one another on a regular basis in organised study groups to prepare for classroom assignments.Hence, although the contact hours of classroom teaching make up only 8 hours per week, the programme in fact requires students to work for about 40 hours per week if they are studying full-time.
Students taking the MA in Communications Studies on a part-time basis will do the same amount of work over two years.
Assessments can take a variety of forms, from essays and exams to group presentations, reports and case analyses. The combination of assessment techniques used varies depending on the module. However,in all assessments your lecturers will be looking for evidence of your own independent thinking and interpretation of the topics and ideas you will have covered during the module, articulated in ways that answer the questions or briefs set.
