Today the topic of my speech is “Neglect the adversaries”.
In 2005, I took part in the 6th Annual CCTV Star of Outlook English Talent Competition in Shandong Province. In the final competition, I was the 21st contestant to stand on the stage, when I was watching the match among the audience,I found that those contestants spoke English so well and I began to worry if I could perform as well as them. I was so nervous that I even couldn’t tell what the word “shoulder” meant. Just imagine how terrible the result I got was!
One year later, in 2006, I got the chance to participate in 2005 National English Proficiency Competition for School Students Shandong Finals after the two contests. This time, My number was No.2,so I couldn’t see many other contestants’ performances before I got onto the stage.I felt much more relaxed and spoke English more fluently. Thanks to the good result, I finally got the chance to come to this English summer camp.
I was puzzled—why were the results so different in these two competitions? Is it only because I had improved my ability a lot during one year? No! This is not a major reason, the biggest reason is that I was less nervous in 2006. Why was I less nervous? I suddenly realized the basic reason is that I didn’t worry about the other contestants, I didn’t mind whether I would win or not. No matter how well others spoke English, what I need to do was only to try my best , and that was enough.
Neglect the adversaries, I can feel relaxed and natural. Neglect the adversaries, I can set my mind to show my ability and talent. Neglect the adversaries—this attitude is useful in both competitions and our daily life. Sometimes if we want to surpass others on study and other things,which is very important for us, we have to learn to neglect them so that we can have a quiet heart,or we will be either too confident or too diffident ,because we probably treat the adversaries as the weak or the strong.

5.There are many unusual hotels around the world. In Greenland, there is a hotel made out of ice , open between December and April every year. In Turkey, there is a cave hotel with a television, furniture, and a bathroom in each room. And in Bolivia, there is the Salt Palace Hotel.
Thousands of years ago, the area around the Salt Palace Hotel was a large lake. But over time, all the waiter disappeared. Today, the area has only two small lakes and two salt deserts.
The larger of the two deserts, the Uyuni salt desert, is 12,000 square kilometres. During the day, the desert is bright white because of the salt. There are no roads across the Uyuni desert, so local people must show guests the way to the hotel.
In the early 1990s, a man named Juan Quesada built the hotel.He cut big blocks of salt from the desert and used the blocks to build it. Everything in the hotel is made out of salt: the walls, the roof, the tables, the chairs, the beds, and the hotel’s bar.
The sun heats the walls and roof during the day. At night the desert is very cold, but the rooms stay warm. The hotel has twelve rooms. A single room costs＄40 a night, and a double room costs＄60.
A sign on the hotel's wall tells guests, “ Please don't lickthe walls.”
