化简得：we reached what was where we have been
我们到达了我们现在在的地方（老实说这句话说的真TM罗嗦!）

其中 we thought 是插入语就像 ...I think...
what was where we have been 是reach 的宾语宾语从句!
而这个宾语从句中又套了一个表语从句where we have been
整句话连起来翻译就是：我想我们现在站的地方大概是到了我们应该到的地方了吧——委婉的真TM罗嗦
1 what 是宾语从句的主语
2 不能你理解成thought的宾语根本就讲不通!句子就断不开了!
we thought 是插入语
3 或者你这样调整语序：
