MARIA TAYLOR 1976年出生于伯明翰,这个具有灵妙嗓音的女歌手在15岁时就已经有了第一批歌迷,那时她是伯明翰乐队Little Red Rocket的一员,这支流行/摇滚乐队常被人拿来和当时的B lly乐队作比较,Little Red Rocket发行过两张专辑,1997年的《Who Did You Pay》和 2000年的《It's in the Sound》,乐队在Geffen唱片被Universal Music Group吞并后解散了,MARIA TAYLOR和音乐伙伴Orenda Fink重组了一支乐队,也就是在独立乐界有点知名度的Azure Ray.在Conor Oberst游说下,MARIA TAYLOR连同Orenda Fink加盟了才成立的Saddle Creek厂牌,加入了Now It's Overhead这支乐队,同时Azure Ray的音乐事业依然平稳发展着.
2001年Azure Ray和Now It's Overhead都出版了处女专辑.
MARIA TAYLOR 和Fink潜心做音乐,Azure Ray发行了《Burn and Shiver》,2003年第三张专辑《Hold on Love》由Saddle Creek厂牌发行,专辑中两首单曲"The Drinks We Drank Last Night" 和 "New Resolution"都在独立乐界得到好评,Now It's Overhead乐队也在2004年的巡演时推出了专辑《Fall Back Open》.
MARIA TAYLOR的音乐事业真可谓丰富多彩,除去自己乐队的主业外,还时常为Moby,Bright Eyes,和Crooked Fingers等歌手的歌曲献声,她自己终于在2005年推出了首张个人专辑《11:11》,时而忧郁哀伤时而莽撞好动,智慧、快乐、痛苦都是其歌词所留露的真性情,2007年MARIA TAYLOR又发行了《Lynn Teeter Flower》.
