Presently,with the development of the society and the economies,the traffic congestion has become an increasingly serious problem.The traffic congestion has a lot of negative impacts,then there comes another question:what is the best efficient and effective method to deal with this problem?
Some people consider taxation for the right to drive on road workable.In their opinion,the cost people will pay for the right to drive on road is related to the numbers of vehicles on road -- that is,more cost,less vehicles on road.Then,with less vehicles,the traffic congestion will be relieved under the present capacity of a road.
On the other hand,some people consider this taxation will limit the growth of the economies.From their point of view,the cost people will pay for the right to drive on road is not the only factor to the traffic congestion.There is no obvious evidence shown that the taxation will definitely relieve the traffic congestion.What is more,this taxation will lower,to some extent,people's desire to buy vehicles,thus influencing the growth of the economies.
In my view,taxation for the right to drive on road is one but not the only way to relieve the traffic congestion.There are still a number of countermeasures to deal with this problem:(1)road infrastructure,using bridges or tunnels freeing movements from having to stop for other crossing movements; (2)urban planning and design,maximizing the access to public transport between residential and commercial areas; and (3)traffic management,providing information on the use of roads.
