以small talk为题写一篇英语作文
Small talk occurs in our day-to-day conversations. It's a strategy people use for various purposes. But to sum them up, you can describe it as nothing more but an ice-breaker. It's about making something out of nothing.
Small talk can be used for greeting or striking up a conversation. Suppose you are taking the elevator with a stranger and you two people are going to 80th floor, wouldn't it be weird if you guys stay in the cool zone all the way up and not talk to each other at all in this long trip? You may want to pretend to call someone your text to people. But what about your companion? I don't think anyone would be stupid enough to do the same thing. When the door is opened, people see two people in the elevator are texting or on a phone call. Are they texting to each other? FML! No, it's probably a good idea to have a small talk. They can say hi and ask each other about the weather. Smart people tell brief jokes during. Since it's a small talk, you don't want to go too far. People won't feel too comfortable if you as them marriage status, income, etc. When you try to tell a joke, don't say anything like, "ever have a elevator falling dream?" It's not cool. When I'm asked questions like that in an elevator, I will beat him up right away. So be careful about the small talk as well.
Small talk also occurs in the middle of a conversation. Sometimes when people finish a topic and have not moved on to another, normally there will be a moment of silence. It's awkward if they can't think of something important to say. A small talk help keep the conversation going. For example, when you sit down with your girlfriend at a restaurant and you both have made your choice about the food, you can ask her about her day or the job. If both of them don't have something to say and wait for the other, I don't think it will be a good date that night and i doubt their relationship will work out. Therefore, sometimes small talk is important.
Moreover, small talk can be at the end of a conversation. Say, you had a good time talking to someone and you really enjoyed the conversation. Sooner or later, it's got to be ended at some point. You can't just tell people, "this conversation is over." A good talk is not supposed be ended up like this. You may want to find an excuse to leave. Suppose you happened to see a old friend on campus, and you don't feel like talking to her any further, you say, "opps, I've got to bounce. I have class soon. Good luck with your exams!." It makes it polite.
